Technics SL-1500

Just obtained a somewhat trashed example of this turntable. ( goodwill find) First cleaned 40 +years of grime and grease of the plinth, then adjusted the tone arm bearings. I tried to test the player, but speed control was impossible, and sometimes the platter did not even want to spin. I took the advice on this forum and applied deoxit to all pots and switches.( Easy to remove bottom) As if by magic speed control is now spot on and steady. This player has a minimal amount of moving parts being completely manual but that may be a big part of its charm..less parts to break down and replace! Looks great, has aluminum plinth, good arm, sounds fantastic! If you can do the same, and find a fixer upper example of this turntable, do as I did, and use the advice and manuals available here to transform it to a stellar performing example of an incredible piece of audiophile history. P.S.This player cost $269.00 in 1976 dollars!!

I purchased my SL-1500 with an SME 3009 S2 arm and V15 cartridge over 35 years ago. It is as good now as when I first purchased it, it is pure quality. As-good-as an SL-1200 you bet!

I’ve had my Technics SL1500 mk1 for over 20 years. I am currently performing maintenance on it, cleaning the trim pots, libricating and setting up the cartridge and tonearm. I found the oil for the spindle online and it came with the original labeling. Very happy with this turntable as the resurgence of vinyl is happening. Starting to clean my albums and enjoy the sounds of the past.

The SL-1500 Mk1 is one of the best bargains on the market. If you can find a decent one for under $250 don't even hesitate. Really nice ones are getting harder to find as people are realizing that this player is the just as good as the SL-1200 but is a better buy for non-DJ use.

Great turntable, total workhorse, my only real complaint would be the arm lifting device getting worn out a bit too easy, but other than that totally great.

The design of the arm lifter of 1500 MK II is not reliable.

I don't know how to tell this , but ,it's great ! Got it after long research and patient hunt on the ebay. Just the tonearm lift needs a bit more damping , but nothing special , I can live with this until I'll solve this .After all it is a venerable old guy , but great player!Mounted a Benz Micro MC20E2 ,aligned it , and woooooaaaa ! A great turntable underrated .My Rega P2(NAD rebadged) is KO.
