Pro-ject Xpression
Pro-Ject Xpression II (Cir.2009) 8.6 Carbon tonearm came with Sumiko Pearl, replaced with Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge. I have nothing but praise for this turntable, at this price point. I did replace the felt mat with a Cork-It mat and use the Pro-Ject Speed Box. The phono pre amp is the Cambridge 640P. Using good interconnects and a good alignment is essential, however. The platter bearing does produce some rumble at higher volumes, could be quieter. Using sorbothane feet is a good idea. Finally I have had many enjoyable hours of music listening from this turntable and would recommend it to anyone that is looking for a phono at this price range.
Not bad for it's price, motor too weak. I've tried theXpression classic carbon with the alu platter en red vineer, only that motor has a bit t few power on board to get the platter in motion and the back of the tonearm was hard cheap plastic. It sounded quite nic with the 2m red, but i returned the unit,. The 9 inch cc carbon and 9 inch evo are better build, but i believe the evo is 800 euro and there you buy a nicer vpi and almost a sme arm for instead. I i like the arms also a bit heavier.
Pro-ject 1 xpression III. Carbon tonearm, sturdy aluminum platter and suspended motor make for a superemely quiet table. Comes stick with a sumiko pearl cartidge, which while somewhat noisy at the start, after some break in is not a bad cartridge at all. Setup is fussy, but there is nothing that is not adjustable. Adjustments are all held by small set screws which make Fine adjustment fussy but still quite possible. I think that for the price it would be hard to find anything that would compare. |
