Pioneer PL-600 belt drive

Pioneer PL-600 belt drive

7/10 by Ionfighter

Lightweight, plastic buttons and parts feel and look budget oriented over quality.

Steady speed. I like the automation. No motor noise.

I didn't like the Ortofon 2m Red cartridge with it - sounded sibilant and occasionally harsh in the higher registers, but decent mid and bass, and calm treble areas.

Overall, an OK machine for infrequent use. Would not recommend this with the 2m Red if you want to 'just hear the music', as this combo is somewhat distracting and disappointing.

I am upgrading to a Technics SL-3350 ($280 after shipping on ebay as of January 2020), and going to try the blue Audio-Technica AT-VM95C, and maybe even the red Audio-Technica AT-VMN95ML with it.

But then I got this Pioneer PL-600 belt drive for $20 at a garage sale 10 years ago - so, for the price I am glad to have had it.
