In order of msrp low to high

Shure M97 variant with Shure 78N stylus on a Dual 1009 SP

Ortofon TM-40H P-Mount on a Technics SL-QL1

VAS Nova (custom model not in the general lineup) on a VPI Classic 3SE

Lyra Delos on an LP12 with Kore & Ittok

Ortofon Cadenza Bronze on a Levinson No. 515

Lyra Kleos on an LP12 with Radikal, Keel and Ekos SE

Lyra Etna soon to be on the Levinson in place of the Cadenza Bronze

What I find is that the best sound makes the others less attractive. This is a classic case of the best being the enemy of the good. So I migrate to listen to the LP12 w/Kleos. The Shure / Dual combo is my only option for old 78s. Those two see the most use.

That may change with the impending cartridge swap on the Levinson.
It did change. The Etna on the Levinson 515 was clearly more real than the Kleos on the high spec LP12. Both of these configurations are excellent though. These may be the two keepers, and maybe the Dual for 78s and the second LP12 for mono. The Tecnics and VPI Classic need to be sold.

Where are you buying your records?

I've never been in a record store and been offered a turntable, cart, etc.
Well, it's not necessarily the record stores where the "record action" is, but through private sales, Craigslist ads, flea markets, antique shops, etc. In fact, I called up a guy about a receiver the other day and he mentions that he needs to "thin the herd" of a few speakers, so I might have to have a look at those, too...I'm just waiting for a callback...Sometimes, you just don't know...When I bought my Technics CD player from a guy out here in Berkeley, MI, he threw in this linear turntable for free, if I wanted to play around with it...

When you're offered stuff like this, how can you say no? 8-[
Well, after you've played with it for 2 or 3 records to get a sense for how it works, then what?

Do you bother trying to build a system around it, or does it get disconnected and put in a closet?
Well, it was free and I've never owned a linear table before...I guess when I bought it, I looked at as a challenge to get it going again...Come to think of it, I do have a very nice Sanyo cassette deck and could probably find a nice Sanyo receiver and have a little fun with it... :-k

If it's not fun in the end, then what's the purpose? 8-[

Just added an Ortofon 2M Bronze to my collection and wow, I didn't know vinyl could sound this good. :D

Now I have a 2M Bronze, Nagaoka MP-150, and Grado Silver2

My newest addition is a Micro Acoustics MA 3002. I got it for free, but the original beryllium cantilever and MicroPoint diamond were gone. I sent it away and had it retipped with a new aluminum cantilever and nude elliptical diamond. It arrived today and I can't wait to try it out! I've been wanting a Micro Acoustics cart for a LONG time.

Shure V15-IV (broken cantilever, awaiting a new SAS)
Ortofon VMS20E Mk II (Stax UA-7 arm, on a Fons CQ30 turntable- my go-to)
Ortofon MC-10 Super (broken cantilever- waiting for repair :()
Stanton 881S on a direct-drive Dual turntable that's been in storage for so long I forget the model number ...

Pedestrian list, I guess, but life goes on and vinyl is, sadly, in the back-seat til I get my new listening-room renovations done next year.

The Denon revealed itself a better choice for my turntable tonearm, but i decided not to sell the Ortofon… you never know when you will need it. The iPhono was the obvious price/performance phono preamp. It has all the tweaking tools to provide the Denon (or probably any other cartridge) the necessary amplification without adding noise. This setup delivers a very well balanced sound.

I have the original iPhono too and a DL-110 and have been looking hard at the DL-103R too. I think I will get one soon but I have too many carts already! ;-)

I don't know the DL-110 but i'm certain you would love the DL-103R, depending of its compatibility with your tonearm… and that's why i replaced the 2M Bronze.
