yes clear pvc outer cover sleeves can damage vinyl - not so apparent on albums as the cardboard cover can protect the vinyl, but on 45's will be disastrous leaving a mist over the surfaces. i use polythene covers, NEVER those clear sleeves!

I get a few of these records from time to time. Try some rubbing alcohol on a wad of cotton, then wash record with a dab of Ajax or Joy dish soap. Not a guarantee that all records will clean up nicely, but the record will be clean.

So, this may or may not be related and I write this in the hope that i am not the only neurotic in this regard: Lately, and though it may seem a waste of materials, I have gotten into the habit of slipping my records into anti static rice paper Mofi sleeves and placing them behind the record in the sleeves leaving the original inners and any inserts in the record itself. Is this paranoia or am I justified?
