Another great 45' I recently discovered was this one from Change, one of the bands Luther Vandross was in early on, but he was not featured on this 1982 single...

While "Native New Yorker" was their big hit here in the U.S., this one did nothing here on the Top 40, while it reached #4 in the UK...

I should note this follow-up to Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods' big hit "Billy Don't Be A Hero" that I mentioned to Tink a while back and even though it did hit #15, it has been largely forgotten today...Hopefully, I can remedy that! =D>

Returning to the 80's, while not as big as their huge smash "One thing leads to another", this one did not lead to success on the charts, as it was one of their lower-charting singles (#69)...

I would have loved to hear it blasting out of the radio back in the day, though... =D>

Now, here's one from Chris Rea that surprisingly was not a huge hit when it first came out in 1986...A 1988 remix caused it to chart in the UK (#12), but it did absolutely nothing here, although it is a song that many people might easily recognize from hearing it everywhere...

Another one in a similar vein was "Josephine"...

If you haven't heard his "Best Of" on EastWest, it is a great "road trip" album...I highly recommend it, if you dig good pop/rock with some jazzy twists... 8)

Here's another one from the mid-80's duo of Mark Long and Marcus Bell that should have been bigger on the charts...It barely missed the Top 40 here in 1988 (#41)...

Really, a bigger hit, you say? :-k Yes, I am sure!

Another great album is Wax's 1986's "Magnetic Heaven", featuring the duo of Graham Gouldman (10cc) and Andrew Gold...I could see any of these hitting the charts...The first one just missed the Top 40 and the other two were no-shows...

This one is a great one, too, but just as it was climbing the charts, their record company Alfa decided to call it quits, leaving them with no promotion for the single...Still, a great time capsule of the 80's! 8)

Everyone knows the band Toto...They backed everyone from Michael Jackson to Boz Scaggs and lots more in between...Here's one from their first album...

This one would've sounded great cranked up on Top 40 radio, too, if only it hasn't missed the Top 40! :(

My guess why their first album didn't do so well (and this is just a personal observation) is that they could do so many genres well and people wanted to restrict them into a box...The musicianship on the first album is first-rate, though, looking back and worth re-discovering! 8)

And back to Michael Jackson again, who Toto worked with on "Thriller"...He did a song with Dave Mason that I thought should've been a huge hit...Again, it only hit #71 in 1982, but of course, there were bigger things in store for Michael and maybe they wanted to promote "Thriller" more than this one-off single...Still, it would've sounded great on the radio at the time! 8)

This here was originally a Hall & Oates tune, but it's just so infectious done by the South African band Clout that I had to include it here, too...It's worth cranking up to the max! 8)

Here are two more favorites from Canada's Shari Ulrich and Mary-Lu Zahalan that wouldn't have sounded out of place with anything on the radio at the time...

Another great group is the all-female Toronto...They originally recorded the Heart song "What About Love?", but this would have sounded just as good on the radio back then...It was a huge hit in Canada, but only made #77 here...

While "Moonlight Feels Right" is their most well-known song, I am a Starbuck fan, who wishes this would've been just as popular on the radio...It's from their 2nd album, "Rock N' Roll Rocket"... 8)
