Of course, before Beyonce sampled this one for "Crazy In Love", it was virtually unknown by anyone, unless they were in the know! 8)

Speaking of Chicago, this one did absolutely NOTHING in 1979, which is a tragic shame, since it has become one of my favorite Chicago songs of all time!

Even the Russians know about it!

This is one of my favorite jams and it never made a name for the group out of Dayton, Ohio (for which they're named after...)...Too bad because it funks hard and in the age of Atlantic Starr, Midnight Star and a lot of other stars, it should have been a major smash! 8)

Alicia Myers was another one...Her work with One Way is known among R&B fans and she had a hit with "I Want To Thank You", but this one should've done much better! :D

Another band I dig in R&B/funk circles is this one...Khemistry only made one album...

...but it features this funky tune...

Getting back to some more pop, you can either love or hate Phil Collins, but this is one I found on the b-side of "One More Night"...I like it!! 8)

Here's another one from "Hello I Must Be Going" that has that build-up like "In The Air Tonight"...Maybe it was too similar, since it barely charted anywhere but the lower rungs of our Top 40? :-k

Here's one from the UK's Human League that was only a minor hit there...It comes from their album "Hysteria", but the album was not as successful as their big hits "Dare", "Crash" and "Fascination"...

Two interesting things about this song...The video featured an apocalyptic vision of the 80's meshed with the idea of "The Last Man On Earth" (They actually got the idea from the film "The Omega Man")...Two, it took two months to program the drum machine for this track alone!

Wikipedia mentions this also...

"The lyrics were deemed "depressing" and starting with the line "Winter is approaching, there is snow upon the ground", it did not sit well with the 'happy' summer holiday records it was on sale next to. Despite this, the tune of the song is fairly upbeat in contrast to the melancholy of the lyrics...It is acknowledged since, that in rushing the single out mid-summer to capitalize on Hysteria's success in the album charts was a mistake, and waiting until Christmas 1984 would have made more commercial sense for this track..."

I just like it unabashedly... 8-[

Going back to the 70's, I found this album searching around and think the title track should have done better...

Another group whose masters were reportedly destroyed in that Universal fire, too... :(

A couple more funky things, too...

I love the UK bands Delegation and The Real Thing...These should have been as big here as they were in the UK...

Lest I forget the Canadians, here's one that hit the Top 40 there in 1980, but did absolutely NOTHING here...

Another Canadian that should have gone further was Kim Mitchell...I remember the video for this from watching CBC back in the day...It only got to #86 here in the U.S., but I am so surprised that Pepsi and Coke didn't pick up on it!

Of course, one of Canada's best-known exports was April Wine...This song barely hit the Top 40 in the U.S., but it rocks nonetheless! 8)

I recently also picked up a Stampeders LP, but while everyone knows "Sweet City Woman", they might not have heard this one...

I guess Chaka Khan was doing her own thing, by the time Rufus' album, "Camouflage" came out in 1981...Big B recently sent me a copy of the album, and this one is a highlight, if you're a funk lover! 8)
