Re: How much did your TT(s) cost?
haha thanks for the review!
Coupla things...
I kinda like the combination of old and new with this. And the TD150 just lends itself perfectly to personalization. (I did just acquire a TD126 MKII that I will keep more true to tradition.)
First plinth I ever made, and I like it. I think I'd like it to be even more massive, but that will perhaps be version 2.0. The step on the top accommodates the dust cover.
Jury is out on the nameplate. I like it, but Plinth V2 will likely exclude it. (Might put the badge on something else, or sell it with Plinth V1, if it comes to that.)
The silver swiss-cheese headshell is a stopgap. I do have a Thakker HS-15 shell I'm going to move that Grado to. Those Ortofon SPUs are interesting but I don't think I'll go that route.
Whether my system is revealing enough to discern an exotic headshell, I doubt it. Maybe someday. (Currently running an Audiolab 8000A integrated amp and Silverline Minuet Supreme Plus monitors.)

OK I HAVE IT BAD.
Posted in another thread about a Thorens TD126 MKII i found on Craigslist, so another dubious deposit has been made to the turntable investment fund. Or is it a withdrawal?
Thorens TD126 MKII
Ortofon MC20 Moving-Coil cart
Ortofon MCA76 Moving-Coil step-up amp
$800 all in.
viewtopic.php?f=17&t=111724
Here's the thing. Six months ago, I balked at $300 for a Rega Planar 1 or a Pro-Ject entry level TT for a re-entry into the world of records, which I have a few hundred of that have sat idle for 15 years.
But I was having some work done on an old receiver by a guy who had that first TD150 for sale, and on a whim bought it for $600. I ADDED $1100 to that one.
The insanity is that I threw $800 at this one and declared it a bargain.
Insanity, i tell you.

Hold on now, tls...It's OK that you're not a fan...I like things very traditional, too, but then again, I see a bit of 80's inspiration and a little bit of the Piet Mondrian look about it, too...In fact, I think I will add it to my other thread here! :Dtlscapital wrote: ↑30 Apr 2019 15:01Totally right you are. Money well spent. If I'd be offered such a 'Swiss' made TD150 MK I for the same money, Lord knows what would be my move... It looks good even though it's a little bit too 'pop' to my taste with the bright red and cornered solid wood DIYed plinth.terzinator wrote: ↑30 Apr 2019 14:06This is embarrassing
Thorens TD-150 MKI Swiss-made: $600 (original TP13 arm, Shure M95ED cart, custom dust cover)
Worked just fine, but one feels compelled to upgrade, amiright?

Don't be embarrassed at all, terzinator...That's exactly the kind of thing I had in mind when I started that thread! :D

No, not embarrassed at all. These turntables are wonderful, and they call out for inspired personalization where others make you live with what you get. I mean, build a wood plinth for one of the newer base-model Rega/Pro-Jects? Not saying it's not possible, but i'd like to see it integrate nicely.
I DO agree on the nameplate, however. Wasn't sure if I liked it on there before, and sure enough, he called it out. Removed it, and I do like it better. So there is that. But the red, for now, I like. Like my first Schwinn Typhoon. Makes me happy.
The TD126, though. That one I'm keeping upright and traditional. The armboard, however, was cut for a tonearm other than a Black Widow, so I will likely hunt down a piece of 1/2" walnut or mahogany or ebony or similar to complement it better. That turntable lives in the living/dining room, mind you, so it needs to be reserved and sophisticated.

Re: How much did your TT(s) cost?
I recently bought a Rega P1 as a replacement for my old Pioneer whose motor gave up the ghost.
Cost me £225,that`s 10% off retail, thanks to a friend working in AudioT in Swansea.
I was going to put an AAT95e on it but I`m very pleased with the sound I`m getting from the factory installed carbon cartridge.Maybe I`ll sell the AT95 in a Technics headshell.I fitted it to my Pioneer TT but the motor failed soon after that.

Re: How much did your TT(s) cost?
My current turntable is the SL-1210 mkII. I bought it in a lot of 15 turntables. It came in the original box - all the other turntables were parts machines. Imagine my surprise when I opened the box to find it was absolutely pristine (not even a scratch!). It cost me $40 (the price for the lot divided by 15). I've since added a new Technics dust cover and a pair of hinges. I think it'll be around a while.

I had no luck there, mine is a bit different, I don't have much choice with covers from other Technics TTs.tcolegrove wrote: ↑23 May 2019 20:40I found mine on eBay from a UK seller.Luxman78 wrote: ↑20 May 2019 20:09Where do you all buy new Technics dust covers??tcolegrove wrote: ↑20 May 2019 19:16I've since added a new Technics dust cover and a pair of hinges.
