Hello all,
I have an AT Precept 220 cartridge that very much needs a new stylus, but I can't find them for less than 75$ anywhere. I'm just getting into vinyl and don't have a crazy budget to work with, but at this point it almost seems like it would be better to buy a new cartridge altogether.
Opinion/direction/advice on the matter and getting started in vinyl in general would be appreciated very much, Thank you.
Worth replacing Precept 220?

Re: Worth replacing Precept 220?
Hi Rahmoondog,
Welcome to VE.
Try an Audio Technica ATS type stylus.
I recently put an AT10 conical on a Precept 220 but you could move up the ladder and find an elliptical like an ATS 11.

Look for an ATS not an ATN type.

Re: Worth replacing Precept 220?
Thank You so much for the link, those are so much cheaper and certainly more realistic to replace on a regular basis. How do they compare with something like the branded replacement stylus?

The only thing I've really found so far.

Re: Worth replacing Precept 220?
I considered buying that until I heard the simple ATS10 on the Precept body.
You're right, normally you would want to but genuine OEM styli.
I haven't heard the ATS220 but the ATS10 sounded full bodied and tested out fine on my test record.
I'm a fan of the AT offshoots like the Precept, Signet, and Techincraft lines.
The Technicraft is an especially good sleeper cart.
But for the money I'd go for a ATS11 or ATS12 elliptical.
I mean, how much do you want to spend?
The LPGear VL line is good and the Turntableneedle Bliss styli are fine, as well.
I've bought from this moneyblows site a few times and they don't have much for communication but you usually get your styli to you in a week or so.

In my opinion, a genuine Precept replacement stylus of this quality would be worth 75$.
