Technics SL D33

Post by chriz74 » 13 Apr 2019 15:22

Hello guys, next week a friend of mine will give me an SL D33. Is it any good? He said the feet are to be replaced though, does anyone have a source? Also can I put an audiophile cartridge on?

As far as your second question, it should accept many different cartridges being a 1/2” removable headshell type mount. To answer your first question, www.organdonorparts.com may have some. Also check the auction site, local Craigslist, etc.

The SLDD33 is a p-mount type turntable. I currently have one sitting on my coffee table awaiting pick-up from a good friend. There are good p-mount options from LP Gear

technics rubber feet sklb2 vs sklb3

Post by chriz74 » 16 Apr 2019 13:07

Hello, I was given an SL-DD33 , the rubber feet are melted so I need replacement. The service manual lists them as part SKLB2 .. however I also see on the market some SKLB3 .. does anybody know if these are the same thing and can be used with the DD33 too?
Thanks

what feet for Technics SL-DD33 ? (original ones are not available anywhere)

Post by chriz74 » 16 Apr 2019 14:41

The feet in the DD33 they gave me are melted. I can't find any source for the original part sklb2 or sklb3 .. at this point I think I need generic feet but what can I put there? I don't want to spend too much. Clues?

There are feet for a Technics SL-D1 listed on ebay. According to the listing they'll fit a DD33. Seller is in New York so if your are not in the US shipping could be expensive. Search on Technics SL-D33 feet and you should find it.

Thanks I already looked for SL-DD33 feet, there is no availability anywhere. I’ll check this listing.

Edit:

No those D1 feet are different from DD33 and the shipping cost is just absurd (65$).

The Never Ending SL-DD33 Story Part IV

I put a new new needle today and tried two new records thinking they would play clean. No way, they crackle. So I removed the cartridge and sprayed dry contact cleaner. Nothing changed. Do I really need to clean the record with anti static liquid? P.S. The ground wire is connected.

ALL records need to be cleaned. New, previously enjoyed, dollar store finds, etc. Before anything touches my turntable, it gets cleaned. Hence, the large collection I received from a friend that has yet to be played. Haven’t had time to clean them.

So it’s normal behavior ? Why then DJ stuff doesn’t ? I don’t think they constantly clean their records. Is it the turntable? Is an sl 1200 better at this?

Generally, records don’t need constant cleaning. I clean them once, put them in a MoFi inner sleeve, then just an anti-static brush before playing. If they get noisy, they get cleaned again. I have some records that haven’t been cleaned in 3 years or so. So, no, they don’t need constant cleaning. Your SL-DD33 is a far cry from an SL-1200. It’s still a capable player, though.

I saw people cleaning records using tap water. That is insane! That water contains minerals, limestone that will deposit on the record.
