Sony PS-FL77 turntable tonearm issue

Post by petelenneman2 » 05 Mar 2019 14:56

I have a Sony PS-FL77 turntable. It started to repeat/skip on the same place of the record. I could manually move the arm, but it still would not play, but stay on the same groove. I changed the arm belt and now it will begin on the album and then the arm goes all the way across immediately without playing. I tried to adjust the tone arm with the adjustment, but this hasn't helped. Not sure if I need a new needle assembly, I have never replaced it. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If the arm goes across the record immediately, that is a very strong suggestion that the stylus fell out of the cantilever. It's possible that the stylus was knocked out when the arm was unable to move, but you need to get a new stylus. One possible reason for stylus sticking is that the cuing platform has shifted and tilted up and interferes with the arm's movement. It's an easy fix usually, so check it first.
