Cartridge Grounding

Post by Crisis64 » 22 Feb 2019 23:45

Hello All, I’m new here, & have been using this site to repair my CS 506, needs a good degreasing & new belt. Great job all, & thanks.
While I had the tt opened I noticed the bus connecting the rca wires to the cartridge wasn’t grounded to the chassis, but on the cartridge side there was a ground wire.
Should I ground on the rca side to the chassis?

No.
adding another ground will result in what is called a "ground loop" which results in HUM in the audio.
Normally, the chassis is grounded directly to the preamp/amp at the unit.
The audio grounds are seperate.

The bus mounting screw is the ground.
