Any ideas on who made this tonearm? A friend asked me to check it out and go over it for him, and I can see it has dynamic tracking force (see spring), as well as anti-skating, but a very delicate mounting base which makes me think it is a vintage era design. Otherwise it looks really nice, and I'm told it is capable of very good sound. Thoughts?

Any ideas who made this tonearm? Turntable is nec-aup6300e. Headshell is aftermarket but I have an original too (second picture). It's looks like few tonearms mixed together to me...

That's obviously the factory tonearm on that turntable, and a check of the turntable's name will answer your question.

So you think nec made this tonearm? Lots of japanese turntables have micro seiki arms etc. I thought it could not be an arm designed by nec but maybe...

I'm not sure how accurate the idea that Micro Seiki was secretly making a substantial portion of the arms on Japanese tables actually is. It is true that there is/was lots of subcontracting going on in Japanese industries in the 50s and onward, and that CEC and Funai built many of the tables sold under other names, but the idea that Micro Seiki had enough excess capacity to build lots and lots of arms (and, apparently, to do so for cheap so that they could be part of a (supposedly) surprising number of modestly priced tables) seems hard to believe.
Looking at the low end Micros might lead to a different direction for subcontracting - they look very much like generic tables, granted with a few cosmetic touches to tart them up (and yes, I think they make the tables look cheaper than they are).
If, in fact Micro was cranking out arms for other makers, they were clearly doing it down to a spec and a price, and are not likely to compare well with their labelled arms.
There is much to be said for honest, cost effective products even if they are not top of the line. All the NEC audio products I've seen have been quite nice on their own merits, so I don't see the point of gilding the lily.

And if I'm wrong about Micro, I assume this is the place where I'll find out.

Your tonearm looks very similar to one on Sansui 838, that was the last turntable made by Micro Seiki for other brands.
However, on list of Micro Seiki work for other brands, only NEC listed is AUP-700E.

I didn't know there is a list of Micro products used in other equipment - where would I find this?

Weird - the last several arm ID questions have all been the same arm. I would assume that you might look around a bit before asking, but apparently I'm wrong. It does seem like Syntec/Sparta sold a ton of these arms.

It seems to be the tonarm of a Rotel RP-900 or RP-1500.

Regards.
