Worn out rubber feet on a turntable

I have a Two part question regarding the oringinal rubber feet on my Pioneer PL514 turntable.
(1) is it necessary to replace worn out ones( 1969 ers) so as to prvent the motor from touching
(2) if so, where can I get a set of inexpensive one's so that won't break the bank. vintagesam

Hi bra10n,

Those are quite nice, but a bit more spendy than I like. I just fell heir to a somewhat basket case Kenwood KD 500 which is missing its feet. After sorting out the other issues I will be needing feet. As nice a machine as the Kenwood is, I think it is worthy so I'm tempted. Who knows, I may put them on my present KD 500 and "demote" the OEM feet to the machine which I'm working on.

Thanks! After all the sweat equity to get this basket case KD500 going I just may pop for the nice metal ones as they look more believable compared to the feet on my good KD500.

As an adjunct to the previous and specifically last comment, the pure logic is to replace the original feet with virtually anything you like that performs the same function, maybe even moreso given the advance of technology. For the purists, you will need to pursue the originals or a clone, but as always, function should lead form......or form follows function for you sticklers. There are lots of options if you are not a purist. 8)

For a lower-end turntable some rubber stoppers from a hardware store will provide the same function.
For something fancier to give greater isolation, use cut squash balls or sorbothane.

I tried quite a few aluminium and rubber and while they looked pretty, they didn't offer the same kind of isolation as the original spring and rubber feet.

I recently adapted some Isonoe feet from M6 to M4 to fit my heavy Toshiba SR370 and the results have been a lot better than I expected. With these feet, the turntable is suspended by a series of rubber strands.

I've also seen people use foam pads with butcher blocks under their tables.

While the oem's probably would look and fit better, you probably can't get them in most cases, and all these others are certainly suitable subtsitutes.
