Not a picture of the copy I have somewhere that I wrote my name on when I was a 5 year old, but the first single I ever bought! I do miss Peaches Records and Tapes.

I found House Of The Rising Sun for 10 cents at a now defunct store called Woolco.
I was so thrilled until I got it home, put it on and realized it wasn't the ANIMALS but some crappy, talent-less group capitalizing on their success.
It was on some label with a Parrot (Parrot records?:))

However, the biggest singles in my youth have been Stewart's Maggie Mae, Dylan's Knockin' On Heaven's Door and Harrison's My Sweet Lord.
All three had me listening to my radio all night to find out who did them.
Typically it was around 3 in the morning when these great songs would wake me up in a panic thinking "there it is!"

My older brother's Jumpin' Jack Flash (with Child Of The Moon as a B side) was also a major release for me along with The Who's I Can See For Miles.
With Jumpin' It was the first time I saw Artwork for the paper sleeve.
It was cool.

You might like my accompanying story to my first single.
The first one given to me by a cousin was the EP Beatles for sale (Eight days a week/I'm a loser/No reply/Rock 'n' roll music). It was from 1965, but I reckon he gave it my around 1968. I still have it and it plays perfectly. As I did not have a record-player myself, my parents 'allowed' me to play it now and then.

Around 1969-1970 in my school six boys were chosen to act in a professional opera: Puccini's Tosca, with Marco Bakker in the lead. Although I wasn't into opera, it was fun. As it was not allowed to pay children, we were given a cheque for 25 guilders, free to choose whatever we liked. Under guidance al six boys went to the Bijenkorf, a big Amsterdam warehouse. I decided to spend my money on my very first singles (I still have all of them):

Marian-Cats
Seasons-Earth & Fire
Bloody Mary-Tom & Dick
In the year 2525- Zager & Evans
My special prayer- Percy Sledge

I made a mistake.....sort of. The singles I mentioned in my previous posting are all pop-songs. However, my parents bought me this one around 1962. Yes, I still have it!

I can remember the very first single I bought with my pocket money and that was Magic Fly by an electronic based band named Space in the 1970s (not be confused with a more recent band by the same name), I still have the 45, however it's not in great shape. My dad also bought me Way Down by Elvis Presley at about the same time, the same fate has met this single. They both still play, but are scratched quiet badly.

My dad later bought the 12" single version of "Save your love for me" by Space, which comes with Magic Fly on Side two. I now have that 12" disco single, and given its now nearly 40 years old and it's been treated well today it sounds as good as new.

I now own well over 100 7" 45s and 100's of LPs.

Your post confuses me a bit. Was there a post after mine, which now has been deleted?
If so, maybe the following is interesting to avoid confusions for the future  :

Well, the good news is that we finally got some activity in the 45 rpm forum.

On topic, I didn't buy singles until very recently. I think it might be Fell in love with a Girl by the White Stripes.

I now have a small collection. It's a lot of fun to play them, since you know exactly what you are going to play and then you have to decide what to put next. It's a very interactive, forcefully engaging, experience.

Tie me kangaroo down sport. My very first 45. My mom gave it to some other little boy, (as she was wont to do with all of my presents, but that's a whole other kettle of rotten fish) So when I was about 25 I bought it again from a bin in a record store. I think I also got King of the Road, and Are You a Boy or Are You a Girl. I was quite chuffed about it, and continued to collect them, ALL of them are novelty records, or what I consider novelty, for example I think It Must Be Him is a novelty, though possibly many would think it serious. I have a couple hundred now, and love most to play then when I get drunk.
