So, I have been listening to my sl-1300 with my acutex 410e and my bic 80z with may acutex 312 lpm. I recently got a few albums on ebay and flee market. So I am going a little crazy. When I first got my 410e I thought it sounded great, very sharp, crisp as compared to the used 610eee which sounded a little flatter, but smooth. My old 312 sounded closer to the 410 but the 410 seemed to be missing some base. When I compared the same songs simultaneously using my switcher (steely dan and michael sembello maniac a heavy base beat) both sounded pretty good, but I feel like it just isnt quite there, unless it is me. I replaced my rca with monster audio cables just for the hell of it. Maybe a bit on the treble side unless I hit the base boost button on the receiver. I would equate it to listening to a jazz record that normally isnt a heavy base sound. I like to listen loud and I am set up in an 8x10 room. When I switch to my min advent speakers the sound is good but a little thin since the woofers are small, back to my radian research 12-3 12 in woofers definitely sound better/fuller but, and as compared to my studio monitor head phones very similar, but still not quite there as i feel there should be more base. I have read that you need to "break a new stylus in to get that fuller rich sound. Maybe it is just that my speakers are 37 years old. I did all the protractor adjustments, technics over hang guage, set my tracking force at 1.5 as the manufacture suggest, and bias at about 1.5 too. Just dont have a test record any more to check all of those adjustments. I do notice in all of this, records from my old collection albeit over 30 years old, play and sound better than any record I have purchased recently on line or flee market, regardless of the records condition (none new). I thought came to my head, is it possible, that records played years ago on my acutex 312/320 and micro a 2002e simply got used to those diamonds and the used ones that I have recently purchased used on a completely different stylus their whole lives and may account for the difference in sound? Or maybe I am being too critical. My wife says everything sounds fine, lol. I am not even sure what I am questioning at this point, but something is bugging me.
