A bit of Nostalgia

Since I have an almost complete collection of Canadian Hifi Mag Electron/Audio Scene starting from Dec 1964, I thought I might drop an "ad of the day" from time to time,
Here is my first one from 1964 with the just introduced powerhouse, the 1009:
E 6412 1009 1.jpg

Inside this issue was the Editors Choice- Naturally:
E 6412 1009 2a.jpg
E 6412 1009 2b.jpg

If you click on each picture you should be able to magnify the script.
At this time I was still wrecking a PE Rex A and just about to get a Dual- 1007a that is! --- couldn't afford the $99.50 yet, and am still a good ten years away from working at Dual!
If this nostalgia trip with ads is of interest, let me know and I'll place some more in future.

Hey, Klaus! Really cool...I think the 1009SK and the 1009F should be next...Then, possibly the 1015 and the 1019...Many of us have those players, and would love to see those ads... =P~ Maybe you could go in chronological order, showing each step in Dual's progression! :-k

Eventaully, you could get to the 12xx series...I'd love to see an ad for the 1226, but the 1209, 1219, 1228, 1229, 1229Q, etc. would all be worth seeing close up...

Got any ads for the direct drive series, too (601, 621, 701, 721, 731q, etc.)?

What's cool is that those ads are all a little piece of audio and Dual history! 8)

The date for this ad was 1964. I have every month from mid 1965 till 1983, way past Dual Steidinger era. I can bore you to tears !
Yes every Dual is listed - I just need to check and scan two meters or so of magazines..... Of course the Garrard ads are just a page or two away....
This could be a real job!!
Hmm, what the hell did I get myself into????
BTW, if you read the poop on the 1010, it stated that you can get the 1010 for $59.50 with a 2 pole motor and for $69.50 a 1010 with a "continuous pole" motor. This is the same motor as the 1009 and the 1019.--something to keep in mind-right?

...and now for another instalment....
We start at page 3 and what do we see?
E 6506 G25.jpg

Something is wrong here! Are they really offering Dual switches???
The answer is on page 4, first word:
E 6506 1009.jpg

You got to admit, it takes a certain amount of chutzpah to make an ad without showing anything!
No, you don't get a cigar if you figured out what's coming next from St Georgen.

Now a little excursion into Dual of Canada and Noresco and its predecessor.
The original importers of Dual turntables was a twosome company called Geerz & Holm with offices Vancouver Winnipeg and Toronto.
Mr Geerz was soon replaced by Mr Ahfeldt who was responsible for the Toronto / eastern Canada and Mr Holm stayed on the western side. These two gents NORbert Holm and jESCO Ahfeldt would form Noresco but would also keep the Dual of Canada separate because of the different products available. One of these was Bang & Olufsen of Denmark with their fabulous Hi Fi equipment:

E 6510 N1.jpg

They produced a full range of products but their first turntable was not a B&O but a lowly PE chassis with a B&O arm and their famous B&O SP1 cartridge.

The next hi end chassis for the Beogram range (as their turntables were known), was the Beogram 3000 5210:
https://www.beoworld.org/prod_details.asp?pid=286.
Naturally Dual would not allow Dual of Canada nor its parent Noresco to import a turntable other then their own, let alone a PE or Thorens! Worse than that, PE was the importer of B&O right in the home town of St Georgen!! Sadly B&O changed importers because they wanted their complete line represented and it went to- BSR Canada and their Musimart of Canada division.
In the meantime Noresco Quebec Inc was responsible for speaker assemblies and imported tapes for the Dual and B&O taperecorders. This is a rare NQI ad for these products:

E 6510 Q.jpg

The cabinetry for the Isophon range of German speakers was designed and produced in Quebec in the beginning:

E 6510 N2.jpg

In this ad we can see the first Noresco offering called the Noresco Consolette. The consolette (NC1010) utilized the original rhomboid Noresco logo similar to the Telefunken logo. The amp was an exact copy of the early Dual amps used in their Party and early CV amps.
As I flip through the pages of the magazine 64 and 65, there are no Japanese turntables anywhere in sight. The turntable battle is between:

E 6509 Lab 80.jpg

..and fresh out of the stall:

E 6510 1019.jpg

The perfection itself! Modesty be damned! Did those Brits get that antiskate thingy first- I wonder... Well the Lab 80 is on page 19 (!!) while the 1019 is on pages 51 and 52, so technically, I guess....
Stay tuned,
k

Thank you for sharing those great ads and a bit of historical info with us Klaus! 8)

Some of the prices may seem low, but compared to average wages back then, still a bit expensive. But since some of these turntables have lasted over 50 years, they were very well built and a good buy.

Hi,
I am flipping through the stack of Electrons/audio scene mags., and am up to end of 67.
I should find something on the Noresco's later on, but at this point in time, they are importing B&O and two Dual amps (CV 2 and 4). The only Noresco is the consolette with a (not shown/advertised) NT101 tuner which is an import. It was also meant to fill the bill for the missing Dual tuner as well. Nothing matches stylishly at this point.
Regarding the NRQ 235, it is one of the few diagrams from Noresco that I don't have any more, but the predecessor NRQ 234 and its post unit, now simply called 2360, I do have- including the 2360 owners manual. Since the 234 and the 2360 were made by Rotel, I am quite certain that the 235 is a Rotel product as well, since Noresco no longer produced their own electronics at this time with one real lousy lemon exception...
Regards,
k
