Anybody have any idea what this part is?

Post by aqualab » 08 Nov 2019 18:20

Hi,
I just received a Yamaha PX-3 turntable and along with the normal attachments and parts I found this piece... I cannot identify what it is or if it is actually even associated with the turntable. I looked through the parts list and don't see anything resembling this item. Hoping someone with experience disassembling/repairing this table can help.
Its lead, zinc or other heavy metal alloy. Don't believe it is machined but rather cast. Sorry some of the photos are fuzzy.

Did you look through the service manual found in the library, found at the top of this page?

I did. But looking at drawings transferred from scans can be challenging due to varying detail. Figured I may luck out with a more experienced vinyl engine regular seeing the part and replying that its a so and so. The part looks like it has a glass lense but I wasn't able to get a good photo showing it. Thanks

I can't really see it properly, but it could be an optical sensor. Maybe someone has replaced it and kept the old one. If all the auto function work correctly then all's well.

I checked the table's sensors (3) and they are not similar to this piece. It is more than likely just a used part that was mistakenly included. I'd still like to know what it is and what did it come out of... Inquiring minds want to know. Thanks

Hopefully not from Chernobyl, or a marital aid.
