Hi All,
your advice greatly appreciated. My system has developed a nasty noise. I have a video of it, but can’t upload sorry. Intermittently, a hum can develop but a quite loud one. Then more recently, the left channel dropped out whilst playing a record, and the sound was muffled; just awful. I turned the pre-amp off and when I turned it back on, it literally sounded like a load of fireworks going off backed with generic hash interference. I turned everything off again and when I turned it on again it was fine 😫
I stripped the whole system back, and Audio T now have the pre-amp and say there is nothing wrong with it at this stage. They are going to lend me another one to see what happens, but I’m just done in. Never had a problem with the P1 + linked to the same system.
Any ideas ??
Many thanks in advance

Re: Planar 2 + MM Preamp noise issue
One of my constant points: are all the RCA plugs a tight fit? they should need a solid push onto the fittings. If not, pinch the skirts to make them tight.
Not all fittings or plugs are the same size, and that outer skirt is your ground. It can actually stand clear of the fitting by a hair.
Cheers,
Alec

Alec , thanks. After much investigation & going nuts the problem was found. you were absolutely correct to a sense; it wasn’t loose connections in the RCA plugs, but loose connection to the cartridge. The white wire was completely loose and literally fell off upon inspection. I crimped them all and now the system sparkles ✨

Glad you got that sorted.
So often, the problem is something simple.
