DEnon DP-61F turntable missing headshell

Post by fladskis2 » 07 May 2016 18:17

Hi folks,

I recently inherited a Denon DP-61F turntable missing its headshell, and I'm having trouble coming up with a replacement - I was told that the DENPCL50R from LPGEAR will fit, but unable to get confirmation ... anybody know where I can get an original replacement?

Appreciate your Help

Hi Erie. It "will" fit, but it has been my experience that original Denon headshells fit better-meaning they seat in the plug and have less channel imbalance issues than this LP Gear or the older AT silver one that was out for a while. You can find originals on the e of bay for under $50; DP models 15, 35, 37, 45, 47 51, & 52f's had shells that will fit it as well

I know this is an old thread, but as I just today took delivery of a near-mint Denon DP-61F, this question has personal relevance. While it's conceivable the DENPCL50R might fit - both the DP-61F and the DP-51F show the same 244mm effective length and 14mm overhang - headshells intended for the lower numbered series accommodate different tonearm geometries - shorter effective lengths and different overhangs. So even assuming one makes a decent physical and electrical connection, cartridge alignment might be an issue.

You can get most popular cartridges (Ortofon, Shure, AT, Denon) to line up using any of the Denon F headshells on Baerwald. It's been a while but I did have to go to Stevenson on a table (can't remember what cart it was-an odd duck tho) and I've done over 100 of them with my Dr. Fieckert. You may be closer to the end of adjustability but if it's right you don't need any further.
