Denon DP300F volume issue

Post by TCGage » 19 Nov 2019 17:29

I have an auxillary jack on my 1958 Cobramatic console. I just purchased a Denon DP300F to play new records (cobra doesn't like them), and when I hooked it up, the volume is extremely low. I have to turn the volume almost all the way to get any real volume and even then there is no mid/low end in the sound.

Do I need to buy a separate preamp with an EQ?

Not sure what to do. Please help.

Yes you do need a phono pre amp. Or an input labelled phono. The input on the amplifier needs to be RIAA weighted to give you the correct frequency response and needs to be able to amplify a phono level not a line level which an aux in expects to receive (like a CD player or tape deck).

Shouldn't cost you more than $30, maybe less, but first, look for a connection marked phono. Use it instead, if it's there.
