Denon DP-80 Issue

Hi all,
Hoping for some help with an issue with my Denon DP-80 turntable. Basically, it doesn’t stop when the stop button is pressed and tries to go backwards instead and the strobe light stays on. Otherwise, both speeds are spot on. I can switch it off at the wall socket and it spins down, when switched back on it will try again to go backwards until one of the speed buttons is pressed, it then runs smoothly at that speed.

Any ideas of help will be gratefully welcome.

Does the light of the stop button go on when you press the button? If no, I would suggest to clean the contacts inside the button. The button can be fully disassembled and cleaned in a fairly easy way.

Thanks for the reply and my apologies for not responding sooner.
There is no light on the stop button, but I will take your advice and clean the switch etc.
