Sony PS-5520
I thought I would share with you some photos of this refurbished 5520, which sounds incredibly good, regardless of age.

Thanks JaS, these are incredible value at the moment. You can pick one up for about the same price as a new one of those awful Crosley things.

That looks absolutely fabulous.
I worked on a couple of those, they are fine machines but I had a hard time finding the right belt. Does yours run at the correct speed?

Hi Japi,
Yes, I replaced the belt with a generic one I bought from eBay and I have had no issues with the speed drifting. I will check this and get back to you with some results.
Regards

Just been given one of these, internal fuse blown and no belt. Previous owner stored it in a loft for years, needs a good clean and some lubrication and hopefully all will be good.
Hoping to get back into it, It's been a long while since I've owned a deck or even listened to vinyl so I'm a little excited about getting this up and running.

Excellent Jake, I just ordered a generic belt from the bay, and it works just fine. The belt on mine had disintegrated completely and glued itself to the platter.
Good luck and happy to Help in any way if I can, cheers.

Not gone well unfortunately, keeps blowing the switch fuse. Not sure if the motor is at fault. Really hoping it would be a quick fix but sadly not to be. I've done a much as I can, time to seek Help.

Re: Sony PS-5520
Hi,
I recently acquired one of those that was laying intact in an old apartment. I took it to maintenance and it seemed to work well. After looking for the right stylus replacement, I finally had the chance to try it but I stumbled with two issues:
- A really annoying humming noise, that certainly comes from the turntable (I'm using a Sony STR-7055 amp, which came along the turntable and is working really good)
- I tried different vinyls, and with all of them the arm seems to jump or repeat the same tune at some point. First I thought it was the record that was faulty, but it happened with all of the records played.
I don't know if you had the same issues or if you know how those things could be fixed. I'd appreciate the Help.
Best

Hi Chrisso,
It could be coming from a poor earth, did you attach the earth wire from the turntable (arm) to the amp?
Cheers

Hi Armbored, apparently I forgot about it, even though I followed the manual instructions haha. I finally got rid of that noise. Thank you for the fast reply.
Now I've got to figure out about the repeating tune. I tried adjusting the counterweight a little bit more and it worked a little, but it still jumps at some point and I'm afraid that more pressure over the vinyl will damage it.

Re: Sony PS-5520
Hi Chrisso, two things to consider here - tracking force, that is the weight applied by the stylus on the vinyl and anti skate, which is the sideways force applied to the stylus to counteract the pull towards the turntable centre spindle. Can you get access to a stylus pressure gauge? The older, manual style are basically like a small set of plastic scales that measures the weight, more modern digital scales are available and not expensive. You need to set your tracking force as recommended by the manufacturer, but it may be in the region of from 1.5-2.5 grammes. Once you have set this, you need to set the anti skate to the same value, so will need to consult the manual for the turntable. What cartridge are you using please?

Re: Sony PS-5520
I have a PS 5520 and am concerned about the anti skate weight being original. Mine weighs 2.43 grams can anyone verify that.

Hello Jimcheri.
I came to this Topic just to discover that. I own a ps 5520, and the anti-skating weight weigh is, also, something around 2.5 g. So, I suppose we have the original weigh!! [-o< =D>
