Classic Sony amps

Post by Perfect Alignment » 01 Feb 2017 13:30

Sony have made some fantastic amps, but these classics have never received their rightful recognition in the UK due to a snobby attitude towards all things Japanese in the 1970s and 1980s. That was a huge disservice to the UK consumer. In Europe they were always valued for the quality they were, and I suspect in the USA too.

Here's a couple of pics of my Sony TA-F6B from the late 70's. It had real handsome looks and featured the then innovative shielded pulse locked power supply which kept its weight down to about 12Kg (light for a 100 wpc amp) and a sealed Alps 6 gang volume pot.

I've just put this bad boy onto that auction site together with some classic Sansui pieces. The Sony needs some TLC, but could be a nice rewarding project for a keen hobbyist.

Being an X employee I have numerous ES series amps I don't use any more. I wonder if anyone would be interested. I can supply model numbers if anyone is interested.

I would! I have a PS-X800 with an XL-55 Pro and I am looking for a good Sony amp to couple them with. Please PM the details! Thank you.
