Sony PS-X800 rubber mat

Post by combatchuck » 10 Jan 2019 17:54

Hey all,
I just recently got my dad's old PS-X800 up and running. The only issue it has now is that the rubber turntable mat is warped (sat on the platter incorrectly for a couple decades, and has a hardened edge that will no longer sit flat). I ordered a leather mat, but quickly realized that the photosensor under the platter will presumable not work without the light holes cut into the mat. Now I need to figure out how to make a new mat work with the photosensors.

My first idea was to just buy a cork mat, stencil out the slits, then glue some disks on the bottom to align with the circular holes in the platter to prevent misalignment. It seems that an OEM mat is out of the question since available parts for these are pretty much limited to belts. Has anyone else been in this boat, and if so, what was your solution?

I’d get some Lexol plexol , saturate the existing mat, wrap in plastic and place under something flat and heavy.
