PS LX 5 Fault

Postby arr5 » 13 Jan 2018 14:32

I have recently acquired a PS LX5 which seems to have one fault. When 33 speed has been selected, the arm automatically moves across to the 45 start point and plays from there. Usually, on the second or third play the arm will go to the correct position at the start of the record.
Also Im unsure whether the stylus has ever been replaced...even though the records seem to sound ok.

Any comments on the above to Help me would be appreciated. Thanks.

IIRC, the LX 5 has a light sensing system to recognize and automatically cue the tonearm to play what ever vinyl is put on the platter....... :-k :-k :-k

Is the light on / shining from the projection tower. Make sure the holes in the mat are completely open and free of any obstructions that will not let the light from the tower through. Same for the holes in the platter. Lastly, clean sensors / eyes of any crud, film, etc.. that may have obscured the light from the projection tower.

If all checks out, you may want to just take a regular bulb and hold it over the turntable loaded with different size vinyl and observe what happens and go through the owner's manual if it performs correctly. In this scenario you are compensating for a weak projection light..... :-k :-k :-k

As the tt seems to cue down on what it thinks is a 45 is there light leakage on the 12" sensor......:-k :-k :-k

By experimenting, you can also pinpoint the problem in the sensing system along with what circuits to concentrate on for problem solving.

Good luck and welcome to VE..... :)
