Sony X600 Tonearm Hum

Post by V4Vinyl » 09 Dec 2017 11:59

Hi, I recently bought a PS X600 and a pioneer SA 508 Amp. The amp could do with a service as the vol control is a bit crackly, however I have recently started to hear a hum through the speakers when the Tonearm is lowered into its cradle. It disappears when the arm is raised. This amp is underpowered and h volume is quite high on phono and not sure if it's this or there is an issue with interference from amp.

Your PSX-600 should be quiet when arm is on rest, because the cell is shorted (look at the phono board on page 24 of the service manual) when the arm rests on the cradle.
Signal is only set to the output when the arm is down on the record.
Can you try on another amp ?
