Sony PS-X45 tonearm drop

Post by Dchawk » 08 Jan 2014 01:55

I have Sony PS-X45 that I love but it has one issue: When using the auto start or repeat functions, it drops the the tonearm so quickly that it bounces on the album. I have fiddled with the lift mechanism but can't figure out what is causing this or more how to fix it. Does anyone know the fix for this issue? My old PS-T33 had the same problem.

The usual problem: the arm lifter is a piston moving inside a barrel. The piston should be covered in high viscosity silicone oil. The oil will damp the movement, making the cuing smooth and slow.

The original oil has probably dried out. Applying new oil to the piston usually solves the problem.

Was this done through the top of the machine or underneath?
