Sony PS X-60 Intermittent Arm Return

Post by mcdmgb » 21 Jun 2019 00:48

My PS X-60 seems to have developed a problem with the arm return becoming intermittent. It seems to be becoming worse overtime. I've recapped the unit hoping that might help, but no luck. I'm looking for ideas as to where to start.

Thanks

First you might want to check optical sensor lamp and the CDS sensor itself. The lamp is a fuse type (6v 100ma IIRC, and isn't very bright as Sony employs it). If either the lamp or sensor is dirty or the lamp is loose in the socket, that will likely be your problem. If that doesn't do it, check the service manual for setting the lead-out groove voltages (adjusting a trim pot while monitoring the voltage while arm enters lead out groove). I did this on a PS-X50 and it was a lot of trial and error, but once you hit the sweet spot it is reliable as rain.
