When I moved back to Europe, I bought a new TT, one where you have to lift the platter to change the playing speed, thinking "I don't like 45s so who cares..."

I just forgot about my Maxi 45s #-o

Two of my favorites are by Patti Smith: Set Free and, Hey Joe / Radio Ethiopia (Live Version).

And I'm looking for Wot by Captain Sensible.

True, but I'm cheap so I'm still hoping to find it locally and save on the shipping

I love 12" singles. They are always cut at nice high levels as the engineer has so much vinyl to play with!

Here's just a few that I have and love:

Earth Wind & Fire- Boogie Wonderland and Let's Groove
D Train- You're The One For Me
Tyrone Brunson- The Smurf
Direct Drive- Pass The Paper

I used to be a DJ and had 1000's of 12" singles, I sold most when I jacked it in. I still have a couple of shelves of 12"ers though. The ones I play a bit at home are...
David Bowie - Absolute Beginners

Nikke Nicole - Believe
New Order - Temptation

The Tubes - White Punks On Dope

Mink Deville - Spanish Stroll

and loads of others.

Full 14 mins of joy :)

This has got to be in my top five 12" collection. Spine tingling guitar work in part one.

The Pogues & The Dubliners : Irish Rover
There's an extra verse there where Ronnie Drew sings something about a charming young whore.

Just noticed this thread and thought I'd contribute because 12" singles is what first got me into vinyl back in 1989. That collection was unfortunately stolen, but I've since reaccumulated some of it. Most of it is dance club music from '89-'91. Some of my current favorites:

The Cure - Lovesong
Newcleus - Computer Age
Camouflage - The Great Commandment
CCCP - American Soviets
Depeche Mode - Get the Balance Right
Double ID - Communicate
Electronic - Getting Away With It
Explorers of the Nile - We Are All Egyptians
New Scene - Out of Control
Secession - Sneakyville

My favorite 12" single ever was the Plasmatics 'Butcher Baby' with "a Pig is a Pig" on the flip side. Butcher Baby just did what 12" 45's are supposed to do, it kicked a$$. Some junky friends sold it for drukqs though and I've never found it again.
My favorite 12" 45 that I actually still have is Blondies Heart of Glass, with Rip Her to Shreads on the flip. It sounds so much better than the 33 it's worth playing. "Once I found love and it was a gas, soon turned out to be a pain in the ass"

So old thread resurrection: thanks to all the contributors for bringing a lot of artists and song titles to my attention.
Although I have a considerable number of 12" singles, many of the names were hitherto unknown to me.

I had began a project at home involving my 12" singles and some great NOS BASF cassettes:

I got so involved that the compilations just flew.

Some choices or favourites are;

Malcolm X - No Sell Out (standout percussion)
INXS - Mystify (Michael Hutchence providing a great vocal)
Propaganda - Duel (Trevor Horn's production)

This has become an all consuming passion, so much that I am offloading seldom played albums to fund and make space for newly acquired 12 and 10 inch singles.
There are plenty of regular 7" tracks that never made it onto the larger scale, which is a shame as there is a vast untapped
reservoir of suitable music.

Please keep the recommendations flowing.

Cerrone - Love In C Minor
The disco track that set the bar.
