Odd query

Post by buddy1 » 21 Feb 2013 20:44

I know that this is not a 45 but can anybody help?
This is the record. BRENDA LEE, "BY REQUEST". These are 2 x 7 inch records that play at 33 rpm. Label states " from Decca album DL74509" The numbers on the records itself is 7-342242 and 7-7-342243.
The odd thing is that the front picture looks like it has been stuck on and the back of the cover is blank. Also there are 2 discs that go into a single sleeve.
Its not a repro as the matrix nos are stamped in the wax.
This is a Decca USA record.
Does anybody have any idea what this could be. I couldnt see it listed in a LEE discography.
Many thanks.

Its the equivalent of an album in the form of 2 x EPs. I think that at some point they were issued in 2 parts - as By Request parts 1 & 2. Then issued as a 2 x 7" EP set.... then as an album (on Brunswick I think).
I have some Eps with a picture slick pasted on the front and a plain back - it was a cheap way of making them.
If you google around the cat. no. / title etc - you will see various permutations of this release.
