How Much Would You Pay?

Post by Zaimejs » 29 Jun 2011 11:06

I know so much depends on what's in the box... but does this look like something that you'd be interested in?

Wow... that's kind of what I was thinking too. Went to the house to pick them up, and nobody was home. :(

very few of them have sleeves, so probably not in the best condition!

Wow... what fun. I bought the box. I only know about half of them, but I'm listening with total pleasure. It is a mixed bag from 50s to 80s. I bought it when I saw Band on the Run in a sleeve and "I want to hold your hand"

Other than that there are some gems... weird records... fun to see what's here. It's like a lottery ticket.

some country... but the really old stuff... no rap or any of that. Lots of "good ol' rock n' roll."

One song is called "He Hit Me (And it Felt Like a Kiss)" which is the most disturbing of songs.

That's a great record. Goffin/King & Phil Spector from 1962. The Crystals, with the wonderful Barbara Alston taking lead.

Disturbing but great.

At first I couldn't believe Carole King would write a song like this... but it feels ironic.

It is the epitome of the misogynistic music of the 50s. So many of these songs revolve around girls excusing their man's behavior... and/or how they can't even exist without their man.

"It's My Party" is a lighter example of this running theme.

There is one with a title... something like "That's What Boys Are Like" (have to find it) that's explaining how my boyfriend may be a piece of s**t... but that's just how boys are.

In this box are about ten 45s with multiple tracks on them. I have never seen anything like that. I played one and it sounded awful. One is labeled New Orthophonic High Fidelity.

What were they thinking? Did they just sacrifice quality for quantity?

How many tracks do they have and do you know when they were released ? .............. in the 60s it was normal to put 4 tracks on a 7" 45rpm disc............ known as an EP (Extended Player). Bought plenty but never had an issue with sound quality.

I haven't listened to all of them. The worst sounding one has 3 tracks on each side. Sounds like ears bleeding styrofoam.

Is there any way to take a bend out of the lip of a 45? I tried pressing it between two surfaces in the sun (read that here somewhere) no luck.

I have 3-4 records that are in otherwise great shape. Apparently they got hot on one edge or something.
