A relatively unknown single from Prog band Van Der Graaf Generator, George Martin's Theme One / W (Charisma CB 175 Feb 1972) failed to make any impression on the charts, I suspect if forward thinking record companies like Charisma really believed their singles were chart material though they had a lot of singles success with other artists such as Lindisfarne and Phil Collins' Genesis, many Prog bands had great success with their albums and spare material from recording sessions were put out on 45's to publicise a new album, creating a very collectable item for fans.

Cozy Powell covered this as well, but I think I prefer the VDGG version with all this experimental flair.
