Post by Brennan » 18 Nov 2010 23:36

I just received a rega 45 adaptor and so far I have tried 6 singles on it and none of them fit?? Has anyone else had this issue?

Records are made with a standard size hole width of 38mm - anything more or less is a mistake and your adaptor should be returned to Rega as faulty, there are plenty of other makes available.

That's what I had thought, thanks for confirming.

A belated reply but a few level headed facts. The rega adapter is cast properly at just under 38mm.

Vinyl is dinked 39mm, however there are some nasty dinking machines and some Italian labels which for whatever reason decided to dink at 37mm. My 1960 pressing of Mina's 'Il Cielo Una Stanza' on Italodisc is one such example (37mm hole). Clearly using a solid material adapter will not work with these. The discrepancy between diameters is quite widespread which is why the plastic adapters are not solid and can conform to lower diameters due to a spring effect in their design.
