New amplifier question

Postby Slammy69 » 11 Jan 2017 19:48

Hey all!

Just bought a Cambridge CXA80 (excited..cant help it :), and am a little confused about which input to connect my phono preamp (amp does not have a preamp built in) to...unbalanced or balanced? The manual isn't very clear on this topic.

Thanks!

Unbalanced (RCA) connections were used for decades without issues if the interconnecting cables were quality made.

Nice amp.

Seeing that your Pro-ject phono stage does not have balanced XLR outputs, you would have to use the unbalanced line level inputs on your new amp. Looking at the back of your amp, you have 4 to choose from. Take your pick.

Thanks guys!

Now seeing the "A1" input encompasses both balanced (xlr), and unbalanced (rca), I see how dumb my question was. Ugh.

Let us know what you think of the amp.....Been looking at the cxa80 for quite some time and some first hand feedback would be very helpful! What amp is irrelevant replacing?
