Sansui 9090

Post by Progman2112 » 23 Oct 2019 20:48

So my 9090 protection light upon start up would blink once then fade away and not power up.Took the driver board out and powered up and came out of protection.Put the board back inand now working as it should. Should i just blow out part board plugs into or can you use deoxit on that also. Stoked that it's working, was thinking iwas going to spend some bucks to have it restored

You can DeOxit those contacts, but keep a VERY close eye on that receiver. It is rare that things like this 'fix themselves', so the problem may very well return. Had it just come out of storage, or had you been using it, and only recently had the problem?

As you probably know, the 9090 is a true classic and a highly-desirable vintage receiver. It is well-worth restoring from a value perspective AND listening perspective.

Hi progman2112, I agree with jdjohn. I also own a 9090 that went into protection model this was about three years ago now. I took the receiver to a tech friend of mine and he ended up replacing 90 caps, 12 resistors and all the out put transistors and drive resistors and installed LED lamps. There are known issues with these receivers and they should be gone through at this time. My 9090 now sounds fantastic and runs a lot cooler then it did before. I just picked up a 9090db for a song (excuse the pun) it works but I won't use it until my tech goes through it. Again there are known issues with these DB receivers that need to be address at this time. I know it can cost a lot of money to have someone go through a receiver like this and I pay my tech what he charges everybody else it's only fair. But in the long run it's worth it to protect a receiver like this. IMO
