Advent /1 speaker

Post by Iloveali » 09 May 2019 14:40

Picked up my first pair of advents the other day. 50 dollars, i like them can find much for specs on there. It's the metal basket woofer, so that's 2nd generation right? Don't kn9w much about advents. I didn't care much for grills so I did this

I like it. Are these supposed to be kinda bright? Not overly bright, but much brighter than my ar2xa. I belive it's a keeper

All I can say is...I like mine, too! I bought a pair for my vinyl mentor and the guy I bought them from raved about them...They may be a little bright, depending on your taste, but they get good reviews...

I don't know if they'd beat my Dynacos (I'm a sucker for a nice pair of Dynacos), but they're very good speakers, indeed! In fact, I may go back for a second pair of them, as my seller had a few pairs of those Advents lying around... :-k

You might try experimenting with the amount of batting stuffed in the box. They are basically New Large Advents in a slightly smaller box. A bit more batting might make the bass resonance point lower.

I think they had a ferrofluid version of the "fried egg" tweeter. And they lack the odd masonite ring of the original. Good stuff.

If you use them with a turntable as source, it might be worth trying a cartridge with rolled of HF. Had the same "problem" with my speakers. The M75 did a fine job at balancing the sound.

I have a pair of Advent AS2 speakers and like them a lot. They fit the space, sound good when I sit down to listen seriously and also sound good when I'm doing something else and just listening casually.
