Kenwood KA series Amplifiers

Postby Steve Dual » 23 Jun 2018 06:43

I just bought a Yamaha A-S701, as it is well reviewed and rated, but I found it not to have as pure or clean sound when compared to my old Kenwood KA 87 that it was replacing (highly subjective I know)...

So the Kenwood is back in my system, Yamaha is out.

Even though the Yamaha has way better specs than the Kenwood, it just doesn't sound as clean... I never use the (terrible) loudness button on my Kenwood either, so I am comparing just the straight sound processing of each unit.

Does anyone know what the top models for the KA series were?

Mine certainly is not top of the range, but spec wise the KA 880D seems good, does anyone have any more information?

I can't find much on the web it seems - apart from going through manuals here on Hifi Engine.

Anyway thanks for any Help

The KA-7100/8100/9100 series from 1977-79 is considered by many to be one of the better series from Kenwood.

These are well built silver-faced integrated amps which competed with the top models from Pioneer with ratings from 60 watts up to 90 watts for the KA-9100.

Here is the KA-9100

Hi Steve,
I'm very new here, but thought to add this.
I have a Kenwood KA-2002 which I have Cleaned up personally and have Working. It has some minor issues, and I should say I've read Good Reviews on it elsewhere.

Consider this for Lower Budget, Smaller Profile - Footprint. Certainly see the 2 Phono Inputs there!!
Sorry, I can't upload an Image of mine to show. File is Too Big, again.

Wow.. Just Googled it.. Nice looking unit... I have a second hand Kenwood KA 7010 coming soon.. Not a lot of info on it, mixed reviews.. But not a bad price, and the specs certainly look nice so I will wait and see.. My old KA 87 certainly sounded nice up against the superior specs of a Yamaha AS701 so I am hoping for similar or better from the 7010.. Thanks for the info James
