Hi Bill,

Monoprice 16AWG should be fine. Look for a spool on Amazon. Avoid speaker wire with copper-coated aluminum...look for pure copper.

+1 on the pure copper.

This outfit has a nice selection from low cost to expensive depending on your needs.

I have had good results just using mains cable. Worth a try.

Hard to believe how expensive this stuff has become, ever since the prices of copper went through the roof. I paid $29.99 for 100 feet of 14 gauge RCA speaker cable on Saturday at Lowe's.

Still only 30 cents a foot, so sounds like a bargain at that!

Really? I haven't bought in years, so to me, that seemed high.

I think that stuff at Lowe’s is part aluminum. Last time I bought wire was when I redid my ht for my new house last year. I usually only use 12g but went with 14 because it’d fit in my wire moundings. I did a search and bought 100’ spool of pure copper 14g. Don’t recall the price, but it wasn’t much. Just do a search and buy a bunch, don’t buy from a big box.
The days of getting Carol Cable 12g pure copper for cheap from Home Depot are long gone.

If there is aluminum in the composition of this wire, it certainly does not show. Even if there is, this is the most I'd be willing to spend for 100 feet of wire, I am not going to lose any sleep over it.

The Lowe's website specs the conductor as copper. If there was some aluminum in there, thinking they would list it as a composite. Sorry.

I tried lots of speaker wire but if your system is resolving enough try Kimber 8TC. It isn't cheap but it makes a difference.

I often buy 16/2 zip cord at thrift stores or Goodwill for about a buck or two. Makes great speaker wires. Often the zip cord comes in 12 foot lengths. I buy extras because it often is used for short extension cords in the house.

As long as it reaches and is a decent thickness and copper of course it wont make any difference what you use. Unless you are in a parallel universe where the laws of physics dont apply, oh what that is were this hobby exists (hifi), in that case spend big, very important
