Static problems

Post by vintage_fan » 25 May 2016 18:06

I recently acquired a Michell Focus One which has a Mission 774 arm attached. Really pleased with it but having a few problems with static discharge. After playing a side as soon as I touch the arm-lift I get a slight crackle and then when I lift the record off the platter I get a couple of louder cracks. Any thoughts, observations or tips would be welcome.

Have you connected ground wire from TT to preamp?

I had very bad static when the tt was in my bedroom. I have moved it to the dining room and anticipating the same problem, I have connected an earth wire from the power socket to my Target metal rack. Then the tt is earthed to the amp and both are earthed to the rack. Static is massively reduced.

Thanks for the comments. The turntable has an earth wire connected to the mains plug and there is a ground wire which is associated with the phono lead running from the arm which I have attached to the grounding post on the amplifier but I will check all these connections. Thanks again.
