Systemdek IIX repair - not turning on

Post by blueline » 01 Dec 2018 20:11

Hi all,

I am working on a Systemdek IIX that does nothing when it's plugged in and turned on. I'm no turntable or electronics expert, but I do know my way around a multimeter.

I've checked all the components as well as I can and everything looks fine, except for the resistor. I know it's a common failure item after reading numerous forum posts and replacing it is an easy first step.

The problem is that I can't read the bands on the resistor. Different sources say it is 210, 220, 1k, or even 33k ohms. It looks like one of the 200 ohm options, but I'm still not sure. I've found 220 ohm 2W and 220 ohm 5W options which I believe are correct.

I'm also trying to figure out whether the other components on the board need to be replaced. My board looks like this (click thumbnails for a larger view):

Does anyone know the correct resistor and where it can be purchased?

IIRC I put a 220 Ohm in one. Make sure you get one rated for more than 3 watts. The originals were 3w, barely sufficient. Thus the eventual failures.
Any electronic supply shop should have them.

Cheers,
Alec

If you know your way round a multimeter have you got 100V or so at the red and blue motor wires?
Red to return and blue to return.
Have known motor failures too.

Thanks Alec.

@abril I thought I remember testing that and getting ~90 volts on both red and blue. But I just tried it again and now I'm not getting any voltage.

If you have no voltage on either then obviously your prime problem is not the phase cap.
You have voltage on the input?
I notice you have a 0.68mfd cap
Might be worthwhile finding out what your motor ID is - on the label on the bottom of the motor.

I got the replacement resistor today and installed it. The turntable is working fine now. I may have to return it to its owner this weekend and so I won't have time to order & replace more parts unless it's critically important.

I think I measured correctly, although don't count out the possibility that I didn't!
