Systemdek IIX problem

Post by yelworc » 17 Aug 2018 21:33

Hi

Just bought Systemdek IIX.
Turned it on but nothing happened.

What's the problem?

Thanks in advance!

Lift off the platter, is the motor spinning? Maybe belt broken or fuse blown, or even an issue with psu. Platter off is fist thing so you can see what is going on.

Check systemdek forum as probably psu, maybe a dead capacitor.
Cheers

You'll need a multimeter to check the motor and wiring, and a soldering iron to check/replace the resistor and capacitors.

First disconnect from the mains supply, then once everything on the upper deck is secured and/or removed to prevent damage, take a look underneath.

First check that power is getting to the board (I'm presuming you already checked the plug/fuse). If you check this by reapplying power rather than a continuity test, be sure to disconnect the mains again before continuing.

Hopefully it's got the basic power supply (something like that shown below), not the E model with electronic power supply.

Disconnect the motor and use a meter to check that neither coil has gone open circuit.

Check for overheating of the ceramic resistor as these sometimes burn out. A visual inspection and a quick resistance check will tell you if it's OK.

If the motor and resistor are OK, you should desolder and check the capacitors. If you don't have a capacitance meter, just solder in some new ones.

The ceramic resistor visually is OK and a quick resistance check shows 6.84 kOhm
Two orange philips caps show 0.833 µF and 1.015 µF

Also there are two yellow caps (?). I don't know what is it. It marked 01/400

How to check that neither motor coil has gone open circuit?

Check the motor coils for resistance between red and grey and blue and grey while the motor is completely disconnected.
They should both read somewhere under 10kohms and be the same within a small margin.
The two small 01/400 capacitors are just for spark suppression on the switch.

Abril,
Just checked as you said.
The readings of the multimeter did not change in either case. What does this mean?

Do plugs have fuses in Russia, also does the Systemdek xii have a fuse anywhere? Also dont ignore the obvious, have you removed and checked the mains plug? I once bought a turntable that was not working (Systembek one oddly) that someone had connected the earth to the live! Also had turntables where wires have come disconnected in the plug. Basically check are you getting live to the psu? Re motor it is very unlikely all coils are shorted.

No
does the Systemdek xii have a fuse anywhere?
I don't think so
have you removed and checked the mains plug?
Yes
are you getting live to the psu?
I've checked and it's ok.
motor it is very unlikely all coils are shorted
Maybe I'm doing something wrong... I don't have great experience in measurements.

Have you a supply from the psu to the motor?
Does the motor spin freely ie no seized bearings?
