Pioneer PL-110

Post by KevAmiga » 04 May 2012 15:57

Hi guys, I have come across a PL-110 table, anyone have any reviews on it? Seems to be pretty sturdy, I dont have the 20v PSU to test it, and the belt has snapped but all in all the TT is in pretty good shape. The dust cover has a slight bit of yellowing but apart from that its in pretty good shape.

Cheers

Hey Kev

The Pioneer PL-110 is a decent entry level table, based on the legendary PL-12. Well built and delivers good sound for the money. I've had 10+ of those through my store over the last 2 years and my customers have never complained. Cheap and cheerful. Just make sure you lube the motor and install a new belt and it will give you hundreds of hours of listening pleasure.

Think about a new cart if your TT still has the original or an old cartridge fitted.

The clear dust cover on those tables (PL-110, PL-l20, PL-112/115/117) does tend to yellow a bit, unlike the "brown" covers on the PL-10, PL-12, PL-15. A dedicated plastic polish will clean it up a bit. But I have also found that a car polish called "Finish 2000" (a Turtle Wax product) does a great job on turntable dust covers. Don't know if it is still available though. I bought mine many years ago.

Enjoy

Cheers for the reply Dave.

Im not sure ill replace my Planar 2 with it just yet :)

For a freebie though, im glad its pretty well thought of. Must be worth chucking a belt on and seeing what she does.

I will however, need a 20v PSU for it. Any idea on spec, or a model that will work? I do have the complete amp unit that will drive it (or at least access to it) but am not going to bother with that.

Would you know of a replacement cartridge for this turntable?
