PL-514 Tonearm Plate

Post by meteorbrews » 30 Dec 2019 00:31

Hi All,

I've recently gotten my PL-514 back up and running, but I am having a hard time with the auto-return on it. It will pick up the tonearm when it hits the dead wax and return it to the rest, but the mechanism sticks and the platter keeps turning. I've tried taking it a part, and got as far are removing the platter and shield. I took the 4 screws of the tone arm plate off, but I couldn't remove the assembly, it seemed to be stuck on the speed selector switch. I tried searching for any instructions, but couldn't find anything specific to the 514. I downloaded the service manual but it's lacking on disassembly instructions.

Does anyone have any tips on how to strip this turntable down so I can clean things up?

Thanks!!

It's removed from the bottom. Those screws on the top are probably decorative.
Get an appropriate sized cardboard box that will support the upside down turntable and keep all the deck parts safe. Don't forget to remove the platter and tonearm weight before flipping the table.
