Pioneer PL-J2500 tone arm

Post by fingerplate » 01 Oct 2019 21:35

Hi all
Just bought & built up a pioneer system, finally plumbed it all together now I have received the pl-j2500 turntable.
Unfortunately the sound is bobbins....... had the stylus off, looked okay, but I did notice that the 4 connecting wires are heavily corroded.
Due to the unit benign built in 1996, parts are scarce.
Do I scrap it? Keep the table & replace the tone arm?
Any help would be greatly received.
Andy

Hi fingerplate, from the images I can find of this turntable on line I don't think you will ever get very good sound from it. These were the cheapest of the cheap when they were new and they are no better then the Crosley turntables being built today. Now this is just my opinion and I think others will chime in with there advice. But I think you should be able to do better then this turntable and I think you will be happier with the sound. What are the other components in you Pioneer system?

Hi musicmn
CX-J400 Tuner Controller
M-J300 Amp
GR-J400 Sound Image Controller
CT-J300 Cassette Deck
6 disc multichanger cd player
It is deemed a vintage system (but I cant complain....£45 for a mint quality system), it didn't come with a turntable, so I purchased from the reputable auction site & my original post says it all.

Ill shop around for another.

Cheers
