Pioneer PL-518 peformance using a Shure V15 type 3,4 ?

Post by El Gato » 01 Oct 2019 18:52

Hello all, I purchased a really nice, real wood veneered PL-518 back last December and I am just now realizing the AT11E cartridge that came with it is entry/ budget. Maybe that's why my ears are sometimes assaulted by some harsh highs when playing vinyl? The TT is being played through a fully restored Pioneer SX-1010. I am trying to get back to that warm vintage sound I remembered so well before the digital age moved in...

The tech who restored the SX-1010 suggested the Shure type 3 or higher cartridge for my TT. Out of curiosity, I read some of the reviews on the PL-518 and it was noted a few times about its lack of tonearm height and azimuth adjustment, but with the right cartridge that its a non problem...

SO, can't the Shure V15 be adjusted to compensate for the lack of tonearm height adjustment and has anyone here used this cartridge on a PL-518 or similar TT? Thanks!

Jim

The type 3 or 4 should work fine.
