Pioneer 518. help please

Post by tavrett » 10 Aug 2019 22:30

I just obtained a pioneer 518
I had a technics d30 growing up and left vinyl (did keep my albums and 45s [-o<) and now I'm back. I was just a pull it out of the box and put the record on guy when I was a teen. I want to do things better this time.
The 518 I bought is in pretty good shape but does need some love.
First, it has a cart but the stylus is fried. The cart is a Pickering 15 micro iv. I do not want to breaknthe bank but want to have good sound.
Is the cart OK and if so what are suggestions for a stylus that will work with it.
Or shpud I just buy a new cart and stylus.
Next, three feet are in really good shape considering the age and how they were made and one is completely gone. Except for the screw that attaches to the bottom of the table.
Suggestions on how to remedy this
Ive seen suggestions about mounting it. But anyway probably that would be for later.
Also, I guess the other thing is just over all making sure everything is working properly.
Any suggestions or pointing me in a good direction to find the answers would be much appreciated
Oh and as far as the kind of music I'll be listening to
I am a child of the 80s So, 80s rock and new wave music as well. As 70s album. Rock from Genesis to. Super tramp. Thanks

Welcome.
If you don't have them, the user's and service manuals are here: https://www.vinylengine.com/library/pio ... -518.shtml

Cheers,

The cart is good, and there are styluses available for it, but I can't advise on which to buy.
For a new cartridge, your budget is a relevant factor.

Cheers,
Alec
