Pioneer PL-600 Silver Speed problem

Post by reffro » 25 Apr 2019 20:23

The motor on my unit goes way way to fast at either speed. Adjustments offer no change. I have looked at the output to the motor coils and there is 15vdc and 12vac. Seems that there should be no AC there but I don't know. Don't know very much about DD motors but I thought they were DC. I have checked all the easy stuff, connection, ps, switches all seem good. It might be the output driver (PA2005) so I will replace that first. Any thoughts would be great! Thx

I'm having virtually the same problem here with a PL 600. 45 works fine. 33 does some washing machine moves, then runs at ultrasonic speed. I have checked and by-passed the speed selector switch, power supply voltages are all fine, checked caps for leakage, checked all tantalum caps to see if one shorted, tested all transistors. I am down the controller chip, which is long discontinued. Looking at the service manual, The 33 speed control path is not the same as the 45, it seems that the 33 speed control goes to some more frequency dividing before being send to the driver chip. I'M afraid i bought a 50$ dust cover...

Replaced the controller chip. Found one in china for about 10 bucks. Did not fix my problem. I was very careful taking out the old one and I am assuming that it is more then likely a good chip. Leave me a mailing address and I will ship it to you if you would like. My problem might be something to do with a feedback loop and the quartz lock system. Ultrasonic speed at any setting.

I 've fixed it! Somebody brought me a pl 540 for parts it uses the same drive and pll chip. TT gained a lot more torque but still the 33 rpm acted jerky. Turns out the speed adjustment pot was open between center and the prong to ground. I've replaced both pots re- adjusted the speed and it runs smoothly. I 've put the two chips in the donor table and the table that was fine before now would need a hand spin to get it turning.

Another thing: I have downloaded the pl 540 service manual which is a lot more detailed about how the chips work and what voltages are supposed to be on the pins. There is also a trouble shooting guide that was super handy.

Got the info. Looks really good with the troubleshooting chart. Will let you know how it goes. Thanks so much.

wow,
I have the same problem with a Pl-540 I just bought. The 45 runs good but the 33 acts strange and the strobe isn't right.
I cleaned the 33/45 selector switch and the pot vr21 that controls the 33. I checked voltages and the power supply runs at 20.6vdc instead of 22vdc. I checked the voltages on chip pa2004 and they seem fine.
I haven't put alot of time in trouble shooting it but I also don't have a background in Quarts PLL motor functions.
Not sure what else to check. Any ideas?

Thanks
