Pioneer Pl-250 dust cover yellowed need info

Post by slobrain » 12 Nov 2018 05:13

Hey Folks,

I polished my Pioneer Pl-250 dust cover with some Meguiars cleaner wax to clear the hazy top. I noticed that the dust cover has a yellow tint to it. I cleaned it but the yellow is in the plastic. This turntable is a 1980. I have several Technics tables from the 80s that none have the yellow tint to the dust covers, I guess Technics used better plastic for their dust covers.
Has anyone ever got a yellowed dust cover to clear again with any chemical?

I also wanted to ask if anyone has used the Meguiars PlastX on a dust cover to get them new looking?

Thanks

I have not noticed any yellowing of my PL-250 dustcover. I also have not polished it ever, though it needs it badly. In my eyes, it’s part of the old machine’s story. Mine is a 1979 manufacturing date. I know some folks have has success using polishing compound as opposed to wax. The wax may have put some pigment into the cover. This is just speculation.

Yellowed plastic is usually the result of its chemical composition naturally aging.
And really nothing can be done about that.
