Pioneer PL-120 Turntable

Post by stevrob4 » 16 Feb 2018 13:58

Just pickup the Pioneer PL-120 (2-speed)at a yard sale for $25.00. This price was because it didn't have a OEA Headshell with needle. Now the search is on to find a replacement Headshell. So far it seen to work fine. Just cannot play any of my many LP records. Can you help me. Thanks.

HI, I took a look online at some pictures of this model. And the unfortunate thing is that the head shell for that tonearm is hard to find and can be expensive when they come up for sale. You need the head shell that came with that tonearm no other head shells will work. I checked ebay and there is one for sale here is the ebay number 142687545329. I have no connection with this seller, so take a look at that head shell if it looks like the one you need you might want to grab it. A couple of yrs ago I needed that same head shell for a PL 9. After a couple of months of looking for one I finally bought a parts table just so I could get that head shell. Hope this helps.

Hi, type in the eBay number I provided in my first post in the search engine on eBay. The head shell should pop up.

No, musicmn is correct, check out the instructions in the library, this deck uses a dedicated headshell, it is not an SME type as used with a PL12D.

not going to be an easy find or, I guess, cheap.

good luck

Alan

Hi, I'm a little confused as to what you need, in your first post you stated you needed a head shell now in the last past you say thank you for cartridge advice. Maybe you don't know exactly what you need or are unfamiliar with the terminology. A head shell is that part that mounts on the end of the tonearm. A cartridge is mounted to the head shell with two small screws and nuts. The wires in the head shell attach to the back of the cartridge. The stylus/needle is mounted on the front on the cartridge and can be easily removed to be cleaned or replaced. If you have the head shell don't buy the one I gave you the ebay item number for you don't need it. All it is, is just a head shell with no cartridge mounted. If all you need is a cartridge or even just a stylus for and existing cartridge then let use know that. Now if you just need a new stylus/needle then take a good look at the cartridge for any name or model number and Google that info and a bunch of sellers will come up. If you can't find a name or model number on the cart it could be on top. Audio Technica likes to put the cart model on top. You will need to loosen the small screws on the head shell and drop the cart down and see in any info is on the top. If you are still having problems figuring out what you need then take a couple of clear pictures of the tonearm and or cartridge if you have one and post them here. FYI the pictures need to be less the 1 mb in size to up load to this site.

Thank You! To all members, I found a PL 120 turntable Head Shell which included the cartridge and stylus. So I place a order for it. I am sorry if I confuse you. But I did the Quick Reply to thank the member that was providing me information, that all. I cause the confusing by me leaving out the Head Shell. So I should had wrote it up that I was in need of a Head Shell with Cartridge and Stylus. So please excuse me, for this slip up.

Is it possible to obtain a manual for a PL 120?. Has been working fine but has started to play slow. The moter speed appears ok, perhaps the belt had stretched. Anyone know where I can obtain one from? A belt that is.
